Family Fun with Sheringham Carnival

Sheringham Carnival has been running for over 50 years and continues to grow and expand in popularity and extravagance with each passing year.  It is a family-friendly event which takes place over a week with the sole aim of providing fun for the whole family alongside raising much needed money for local charities.

In 2017 the Carnival will take place from the 29th July to the 6th August and will include special events such as raft races, a funfair, a parade day and a fireworks display.  However, it isn’t just this week over the summer which sees money raised through Sheringham Carnival; there are a number of other activities and events which are put on throughout the year to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.  All of these events are very popular so if any take your fancy then it is worth securing your Norfolk accommodation as soon as possible to avoid undue disappointment.

Some of the more popular events include:-

The Viking Festival

The Sheringham Viking Festival takes places in February and features a number of different events for the whole family to get involved with.  There is usually sword and shield making for children, a special raffle which raises funds and allows the Viking Festival to take place, all day films at the Mo Museum, battle re-enactments and even boat burning onSheringhamBeach.

The Classic Car Show

This June event has now been running for the last 7 years and is increasingly successful with more than 500 cars and bikes on display.  From The Harper North Norfolk hotel it would take just under half an hour to reach Sheringham and to enjoy this special event whether you have a passing interest in cars, want a fun family day out or you are something of an enthusiast.

40’s Weekend

The 40’s weekend involves the Poppy Line of the North Norfolk Railway which is located in Sheringham and is definitely one of the most popular events in the whole of northNorfolk.  Themed dressing up is encouraged and you can hop aboard a steam locomotive and travel along the beautiful coastline towards Holt before returning to Sheringham.  There will also be stalls set up selling everything from clothing to jewellery along with live music, authentic vehicles from the era and group re-enactments.

The Carnival Ball

This annual October ball is often themed with smart dress encouraged and supper served at 7.30pm.  There is live music, free return travel and entry by tickets only.  It is a wonderful way to help raise money for local charities and is often sponsored by local companies as well making it a real community affair.  That said, the Carnival actively state that these aren’t events only for local people and that anyone is welcome to get involved with the fun.

Full details of the events held by Sheringham Carnival are only available from the programme which is on sale in local shops but they do have a Facebook page which is kept fairly up to date so you can see whether anything exciting is happening whilst you are visiting the area.
