Why You Need an Online Presence for Your Hotel

The advancement of technology has revolutionised the travel industry over the last few years.  Gone are the days when people needed to visit a travel agent in order to book a trip away, now it is possible to book every single aspect of a holiday from the comfort of your home or even whilst you are on the move using your mobile phone.  Package holidays also appear to be becoming a thing of the past with travellers preferring to separate out the individual elements of their trips in order to secure the best deals.  There are lots of advantages to these changes, such as smaller companies now being able to compete with larger ones, but with this comes the fact that it is more important than ever to have a strong online presence if you want to compete in the ever-changing travel market.

Any large hotel brand will tell you that hotel digital marketing is absolutely vital if you want to survive in the current hospitality industry and there are many reasons why this is something you need to consider:-

Direct Online Booking

Offering guests the ability to book directly online has been proven time and again to result in a higher conversion rate and is also one of the most economic ways of selling rooms.  We live in a society which wants everything at the click of a button and if you don’t offer this service at present then you could potentially be missing out on a large group of potential guests.

Long-Term Relationships

Besides a decent website and an online booking service, hotel brands should also ensure they have some form of social media presence.  You don’t need to be on all the platforms but make sure your potential clients can find you on a few of the major ones such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.  The current trend in travel is all about personalised experience and customers expect to be able to contact a hotel ‘directly’ through their social media channels, to build a rapport with the hotel brand and to get a personal response to any message they may send out.  This may sound like hard work but the upshot is that if you take the time to respond to these guests, you will find yourself with a long-term customer relationship.

Showing a willingness to engage with guests online is also more likely to encourage them to leave a review for your hotel, whether on a third party website such as TripAdvisor or through social media.  Although you will occasionally get a disgruntled client leaving a review, the vast majority of people who take the time to write something will be doing so because they had a great time and want to share with people about it.  This, in turn, will raise your online presence and people’s awareness of your hotel brand which can then be turned into room bookings.

If you want to continue to compete in the travel industry then these are just three of the reasons why you need to ensure you have a strong online presence.
