Celebrate Special Diwali on the Square

Celebrate at a series of special Diwali London events as restaurants and other venues across the city mark the Festival of Lights. Symbolising the arrival of Lord Rama as he frees Queen Sita and defeats the evil Ravana, Diwali is one of the highlight events in the Hindu calendar and is also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains.

Enthusiastically celebrated around the world, Diwali marks new beginnings and a renewal of commitment to family values. It traditionally symbolises joy, love, reflection, resolution, forgiveness, light and knowledge.

The Significance of Lights & Firecrackers
All the simple rituals of Diwali have a significance and a story to tell. The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expression of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. According to one belief, the sound of fire-crackers are an indication of the joy of the people living on earth, making the gods aware of their plentiful state.

There’s also the free festival at Trafalgar Square, which celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2012, as well as a range of other special events taking place across London. Although Diwali itself falls on Tuesday 13th November 2012, celebrations take place through late October and November.

You can join the celebrations at one of London’s fantastic Diwali events, including Diwali on the Square on Trafalgar Square.
